What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the bypassing of the critical factor of the conscious mind, which creates a heightened state of suggestibility and imagination within the subconscious mind. This heightened state allows the subconscious mind to accept positive suggestions for change and programed with new habits and behaviors that will propel you toward your desired outcome.
What does hypnosis look and feel like?
A common misconception of hypnosis is that it similar to sleep. Hypnosis is not sleep instead; it is a heightened state of suggestibility where you are able to program your mind and body for success. In hypnosis, some people experience a profound feeling of relaxation; as if they are sinking into the chair that they are sitting in. Others discover a lightness to them as if they are floating in water or even through the air. Finally, some people feel as though they are simply sitting in a chair listening to the hypnotist. Whatever you feel is what you are supposed to feel. There is no one single, specific hypnotized feeling and it is very much a subjective experience.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Yes, if you are willing to be hypnotized, if you can follow some simple instructions, and if you are motivated to create change in your life then there is no reason that you cannot be hypnotized. All of the techniques used and suggestions given during a session are customized to meet the specific needs of the client.
Will I experience a loss of control in hypnosis?
No, in hypnosis, the mind remains active and alert and you will always be aware of what is going on at all times during the session. In fact, instead of a loss of control hypnosis is a process of taking back control of those parts of your life; your habits, behaviors, and thoughts; that may have seemed beyond your control before. You will hear everything that is said during the session and you will remember as much as you would from any normal conversation.
Is hypnosis dangerous?
Hypnosis is not dangerous in any way and it has been recognized by both the American Medical Association and the American Psychological Association for over 60 years as an effective process to overcome wide a range of habits and unwanted behaviors.
How many sessions will I need?
At Mid-Hudson Valley Hypnosis, our goal is to provide you with the most effective hypnosis process in the most efficient use of your time. We begin your process with a systematic series of hour-long sessions that include customization for your unique set of needs and continued success. Hypnosis is not a “one size fits all” process. Many clients reach their goals in the initially scheduled sessions, and most people (but not everyone) begin to experience benefits from the very first session. Hypnosis is a process and many clients elect to schedule follow-up sessions for reinforcement or coaching.
